Vilsted Lake is North Jutland's largest freshwater lake. The lake is located in the municipality of Vesthimmerland. Vilsted Lake was recreated in 2005-2006 after being drained for more than 100 years. The new lake is now available to the public. There is free fishing with rods in Vilsted Lake, you just have to have a valid fishing license. It is easiest to fish from the boat square in Vilsted, from the handicap fishing area at Holmen, as well as from the boat. The fish stock in Vilsted Lake is continuing to develop, so it is difficult to categorize yet, but sea trout, perch, pike and roach are caught.
