The allure of the North Sea

It would be quite a mouthful if you were to sing the praises of the entire coastline from the west to Læsø. But let us make one thing clear: This stretch offers a lot of space! And not all beaches are for bathing only. For the adventurous angler, there are rich opportunities for a multitude of fish species from brill to sea bass.

Piers and harbor systems are obvious stops for the wandering fish and are thus all worth a visit. Check the local tourist information for accessibility, and find the fishing spots on our map.

At sea

In the harbors of North Jutland, you’ll find boat trips to the very best of sea fishing that Denmark has to offer. From afternoon trips near the coast to real expeditions. This is where you’ll have the opportunity to experience a unique and excellent form of fishing for intriguing species such as ling, hake, catfish, and who knows – maybe an Atlantic halibut? But fishing for pollock, saithe, and cod is the main focus of most trips – except in mackerel season. Like everything else up here, the fishing depends on the weather. And if the wind is capricious, there are lots of other opportunities.

The silver of the rivers

It comes as a surprise to many that North Jutland north of the fjord offers excellent sea trout fishing. Not only in the Limfjord and along the coast of the Kattegat, but also in the rivers. Here you can fish if the North Sea is tempestuous.

The smallest of the rivers are naturally dependent on precipitation, but most have a stable sea trout increase in late summer. If you go south of the fjord, you’ll even find actual legendary rivers. Karup Å, for example. Some of the world’s biggest and most beautiful sea trout are caught in this river. When fishing in the soft river valley, it’s obvious that this is the river of legends. But south of the Limfjord, the rivers are spread like pearls on a flatfish leader – big as small. The biggest problem is choosing between them. Many of the smaller rivers don’t necessarily contain many big fish, but on the other hand, they have a fine increase in smaller fish with a few big surprises for the lucky anglers.

Here you can try your hand at the fun fishing with foam beetles and fly rod which you can read about elsewhere on this site.

The coasts of the Limfjord

Experience the Limfjord

The land of the Limfjord is known for its beautiful landscape, local delicacies, and long, undisturbed coasts.

Take a look at the map with coastal spots in the Limfjord. Impressive, right? And this is just the tip of the iceberg. There are of course many others. And if you have access to boat or kayak, the selection of green spots suddenly becomes enormous! You just have to find them.

You can find the fishing spots of the Limfjord on this site or at havørredlimfjorden.dk.

You can of course also take a weekend trip to an island. This ensures fishing spots in every direction. Mors is the largest island in the Limfjord, but Fur is also really nice.

Læsø in the Kattegat isn’t just a vacation island but also a very exciting fishing spot. And who says that you can’t combine family vacation and fishing?

Hiking with a fishing rod

Thy National Park

Perhaps the wildest nature in Denmark with an ocean of activities.

In Thy National Park, you can experience the untamed, unspoiled nature in person.

The gigantic and unique natural area begs to be explored with hiking boots, tent, and cooking gear. But why not pack the fishing rod and try your luck at some of the lakes? A perch cooked and enjoyed to a stunning view and a soundtrack of woodland birds sounds tempting, right?

You can find more information about the national park and shelter possibilities on the website of the Danish Nature Agency. Downloading the shelter app to find shelter spots is also a smart move.
