In canoe, kayak, or dinghy, you can silently glide beneath the giant forest-green trees and just lean back. Here you can really see the beech in all its glory as it basks in the sunny reflection in the alluring depths of the lakes and rivers. And you have to bring your fishing rod when the family goes canoeing. A perch prepared over a campfire tastes of wilderness and freedom. Your adventure starts by renting a boat or canoe along the River Guden. If you prefer walking to paddling, there is ample opportunity to see a side of Denmark that you didn’t know existed, and the water is never far away.
Find a shelter spot that fits you, and explore the many walks and waters of the highlands. At https://udinaturen.dk/ you can find shelter spots and plenty of other useful information.
There is an abundance of opportunities for the angler with his or her own vessel. You can launch in many different lakes, and if you have a belly boat, pontoon boat, or kayak, the only limit is which lakes require a fishing license. Many use this opportunity to try their hand at the toughest fish in Denmark: the pike. The King of the Lake holds audience all year except when it’s time to procreate. But the pike won’t fall for just anything. Even if there are many pike, there is not a dark, mossy trunk under every overhanging tree. This is why a vessel is preferable in order to fish through a lot of water quickly. The first time you look into the mouth of a pike, you’ll understand why it’s called omnivorous. Its thousand fangs make it somewhat of a challenge to unhook and return the pike as easily as possible. But check out a tutorial video before embarking - then you’ll have less to fear and more to look forward to. Who doesn’t want to brag about catching a highland crocodile of a meter in length?
The many waters of the region are formed by the colossal powers of the Ice Age, which is seen both in the steep hills and the many waterholes. But the manmade lakes tempt anglers in the area all year. You’ll find good service for both beginners and seasoned anglers at the many put and take lakes of the region. And the sight of a giant trout flailing in a net has prompted many a lifelong affair with angling.
The River Guden is the only real river in Denmark, and it offers much more than pike. It also offers perch, roach, and bream – so why not try a floater with worm?
If you want more of a challenge, the upper reaches of the River Guden offer more demanding, but very exciting fishing for brown trout and the rare grayling.

In idyllic surroundings in the hilly landscape near Horsens and Brædstrup lies a unique tourist attraction with an incredible story. The beautiful bridge across the River Guden, which lay hidden and nearly forgotten in generations, is one of the most popular attractions today – and with good reason.
The bridge stands as a symbol of beautiful, industrial engineering after it was restored to its former glory in 2014. The red steel grid bridge was the tallest of its kind in the North at the time of its establishment in 1899, and today railings have been installed as well as planks for the walk, so the visitors can enjoy their view over the only river in Denmark, the River Guden.
The area offers many good opportunities for spending the night. Below, you’ll find more information about experiences and accommodations. See the local Visit sites for more exciting information.
