Ansager Å is characterized by its beautiful, unregulated course through forest and meadow. The water quality is high and the river is a favorite fishing water where it is possible to fish for brook trout, grayling, salmon and seatrout, with both spin, worm, and fly.

The upper course from Donslund to Kølskevad is varied and with some spawning grounds. On the stretch down to Ansager, the river runs in countless turns, but the watercourse quality is low as a result of sandwalk. From Ansager and to the confluence with Grindsted Å, the river runs again more varied in a beautiful forest landscape and here you will find salmon and seatrout at high water levels.

The many aquaculture barriers on the river are gradually gone and there are realistic hopes of improved angling in the future, in line with improved spawning conditions in the main river, as well as the tributaries.

The May flies hatch in the season on the lower part of the river.
