Mossø is located in Søhøjlandet near Skanderborg, and is Denmark's fourth largest lake. It is part of the Gudenå system and is about 10 km long. The lake was created during the last ice age, which is why it is also one of the Danish lakes with significant depths down to 22 meters.
Area: 16.9 km²
Medium Depth: 9 m
Max. Depth: 22 m
Mossø is known for its incredible species richness, which counts over 20 fish species. Among those with the greatest angling value are pike, perch, zander, sea trout. The lake has previously been known as a good sandy water, as they had good living conditions in the unclear, murky water. However, the introduction of the invasive hiking mussel has made the water become very clear. zander fishing is now a shadow of itself, but it has made the conditions better for pike and perch, of which there are fine stocks.
The majority of Mossø is privately owned by over 50 landowners represented by the Mossø Lot owners' Association. If you want to fish here, you have to be allowed by a landowner. At the east end of the lake, however, there are two small public pieces where everyone has to fish. At the west end near Klostermølle, the Silkeborg Fisheries Association has been fishing.
